The murals of Breage

Last year I visited the church of St Breace in the nearby village of Breage, to see the Medieval wall paintings.
However they were being renovated, and covered in scaffolding.
So today we went along to see the finished work.
The mural on the left is of St Christopher and the one on the right The Sabbath Christ.
First discovered in 1891 during renovations of the church.

Three commissioners, appointed by Edward VI visited Breage in 1549 and ordered the walls to be whitewashed, and the windows to be destroyed because they contained figures of Saints and objects of idolatry.
If you are interested there is a short film made by artist Zoe Cameron, who has a painting hanging in the church.Inside St Breaca's Church

On extras is a collage.
Top Left:
A carved stone discovered near the cliffs. 14th century work depicts the crucifixion with the figures of the Virgin Mary and St John.
Top Right:
The outside of the church.
Bottom Left:
Grave of Mary Rosewarne who died in 1885 aged 43. One of my ancestors on my mother's side.
Bottom Right:
The inside of the church.

We will visit again next time we are down here, as there is so much we still haven't seen.A church steeped in History, but one which has a very warm and friendly feel.

It was then on to our friends B & R for lunch.
As always a delicious meal, and then none stop conversation and laughter as we had twelve months catching up to do.
Just got back and my voice is rather hoarse!

It has been another mainly sunny day, but as we have been inside we missed the showers.

Last full day tomorrow.
Hoping for fine weather as we are going into St Ives on the train.
