Aftermath of Snow

Like a curl of soft cloth, the snow thaws
drapes itself over the edge of a roof
ready to slide and fall

A stalactite drops from the underside
of a newly-moved car
to stand like a sculpture
of some tiny, fragile beast.

While a wooden post still wears a white fur hat
the brittle, shrunken pond grows big and wet
and cold birds' frantic footprints melt away.

Our visitors are now safely home after delaying their journey for 24 hours to allow for the thaw to kick in, which it did under deep blue skies and with bright sunny intervals.

My main blip looked at first like a stalagmite, but then we decided it was more likely a stalactite that dropped from the underside of our son's car as he left the drive this morning.

Other images that appear in my poem are in my Extra  as a collage.
