Dusk flight of the heron
After yesterday's excitement and long drive, I felt more than a bit tired today. The afternoon was largely spent at a meeting to discuss how to build on a recent survey that we'd undertaken, which was useful and stimulating.
When I got home I needed a walk to clear my head, so went down to the river, which is no longer flooded, though there's still quite a lot of damp mud around. The birds were singing and it was fairly mild - almost spring-like (sshh!) The herons were very busy, and I saw several flying up and down the river. In contrast all the swans have disappeared from the Rowing Lake - probably all paired up now and settling in to their nesting sites.
