Botanising

A good turn out for the first meeting of the South Lincs Flora Group in 2018, with eleven people turning up for all or part of the day. Despite the threatening clouds, the rain stayed away and we had a productive time. recording in the villages of Haddington and Auborn, just south of Lincoln. The season is very late and we didn't see many flowers, but this gave lots of opportunity for practicing our vegetative identification, and over the course of the day we recorded  a surprisingly good total of 185 species. The richest area of grassland was in Haddington churchyad, where, among other species, we  found crosswort, mouse-ear hawkweed, pignut and sweet violets, which are being examined critically by some of the party in this image.
