Squeeze up your eyes....

...and peer at this photo. It's been raining all day and I was sure I'd need an emergency blip. Then, from the sitting room, I saw a short-toed snake eagle flying past the window. It flew to a distant tree and perched alongside another brown blob. Rushing for my camera I hoped a) it wouldn't fly off, b) that I'd be able to pick it out of a forest of trees, c) my not-very-long-lens camera would at least get something. So, although it's none too impressive, I'm thrilled to have captured this pair that visit us each summer. Having lived in a place that had no big birds like this for most of my life, I was thrilled to see these magnificent birds when we first moved to this house. What an honour.
