Just another day

We were back at the Black Lynn this morning and got through a fair amount of work even though we only had four folk and not all at the same time. 

Jake (the handsome young man in the picture) and I filled another few bags from the disgusting rubbish strewn along the waterside and when Keith arrived he pulled four Tesco trolleys out of the burn and a rotary lawn mower which was rather past its best! He later found another Tesco trolley and then an Aldi variety, plus a fire extinguisher! I trundled the Tesco ones, several of whose wheels were jammed, up to the bus stop where customers usually leave them for the trolley man to take back across the road. I wonder what he thought when he found this rust-infested lot!

Maureen, our 77 year old volunteer, spent the day clearing along the concrete edge beside the fence and left it looking a great deal tidier. Unfortunately Jake, our 26 year old volunteer, couldn't stay long and I found that clambering up and down the banks between the old knotweed stems and vicious brambles is not an ideal occupation for an ageing person with a dodgy hip!

All in all, however, we were pleased with what we'd achieved though it's hard to see how we can ever turn this knotweed and rubbish infested burn into a place of beauty. If we don't succeed it won't be for want of trying anyway.
