Rather a different view
We went for a walk on the 'beach' at Holme-next-the-Sea this morning. Having woken to a gloriously sunny day with not a cloud to be seen it soon turned cloudy but we timed our walk to perfection arriving in a nice warm cafe with big windows as the heavens opened!!! We were lucky to get a table and be dry as we watched people run in from all directions to take cover and have a hot coffee!! This picture shows the view towards Old Hunstanton lighthouse as we marched along the sands near the dunes. It was rather smelly due to the unbelievable amounts of dead sealife still on the top tide line. We found endless small sea-urchin and the whole beach was littered with razor clam shells which must have died in the recent Easterly storm.. l wonder what the knock on will be for the sea-life on these shores. There was also numerous lobster shells and crabs, slipper shells and whelk egg cases (Flossies favourite spongy thing to chew on!!!!) As you can tell from this photo there was little sign of the sea...
My daughter took Flossie out for a walk this morning and came back thrilled to have seen three mad March Hare scooting about and boxing eachother in the field, a deer and a barn owl on the land behind the cottage. Tomorrow we are going bittern and Avocet hunting... do hope we hear/see them.. it one of the things on my bucket list to see an avocet having loved them from a young child when l joined the YOC (Young Ornithologists Club) They seemed such a perfect and rather exotic bird and suddenly l find they are supposed to be numerous in this region... keep your fingers crossed for me!! Out to supper with dear friends this evening who we rarely get to see... yippee... lovely start to the holiday weekend!
