The Latticed Window- a photographic first!
Rather than have our traditional Good Friday on Exmoor we headed for Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire where Henry Fox Talbot discovered for the first time that a single 'negative' could produce lots of positives thus giving birth to modern photography.
We were so glad we chose Lacock because although I had been once many years ago, it is now so well presented and has many enchanting features to reveal.
I was particularly taken with the dining room where Fox Talbot had dined with the most eminent minds of the time - the table was cleverly covered with a cloth which revealed by diagrams what they had to eat but most impressively each plate was a picture and brief description of every person present - see extras if you have time.
The Great Hall, the last room to be visited had magnificent terracotta figures to recreate the Romantic Gothic style- some being very Harry Potteresque. I also liked the sugar lump on the goat which had been a family joke passed on through the years!
Topped the time there with a warming meal at the Red Lion Inn and then a very wet drive home. We didn't have enough energy for a good look at the photography museum so we will be returning - in better weather!
Definitely a good Good Friday!
