Santiago Market

We had an excellent very long guided walking tour around Santiago. Our first stops were the enormous fruit and vegetable, meat and fish markets. A fabulous place, but very busy. I love this man’s hat.

Just as our guide was warning about holding onto valuables, as we crossed a street, my husband was stopped by a guy who blocked his path, then he felt an arm reaching into his bag. He narrowly missed grabbing hold of the other guy’s arm as he ran off with my husband’s camera.

Luckily he hadn’t taken any photos, and the camera is not hugely expensive. In more than a dozen years of us travelling together, this is our first misadventure. We spent half an hour with a local policeman who laboriously wrote out the story in a large ledger and gave M a chit with the details.
