Fishing
This white faced heron chose a different way of fishing. Usually they slowly wade through the water, freezing at movement, then lunging at the prey. That is how this one started but then it hunkered down in the glasswort at the side of the water. Keeping still, the heron waited, then suddenly stretched out its long neck, plunging its beak into the water and coming back up with what looked like a crab.
Seemingly satisfied with the result, the heron continued to sit, fixated on the water. It was still there when I left.
