Whooper swans!
Not an April fool's day joke this time - but we really found these Whooper Swans in Kostianvirta, Pälkäne today! We were cutting grandparents' apple tree as we heard them screaming like small horns.
There was still some 50cm layer of snow on the garden. We could walk on snow surface and easily cut the branches (in the extra), as in spring time sun warms the snow during the daytime, and during nights the surface freezes.
+5c daytime, -5c night time. Clear, no wind, great weather!
After the garden job we had a trip to the small river running through the willage and found this pair of swans. They were actually very peaceful at first, resting on lake ice near river's mouth, but as another couple of whooper swans flew to the river, they made an awfully powerful dance show and defended their area. The another swan couple flew over us (in the extra) from south to north and dissappeared as fast as they appeared.
In the evening we drove home and I made a walk with my daughter. Nice to have all family together over easter.
