Sandgate, Folkestone

Another day where the weather was better than we were led to believe. Not pleasant, but it was not raining. No wind either.

We decided to go down to the coast near Folkestone to walk along the seafront. Called in at the Sandgate Hotel for coffee first then walked towards Folkestone. The sea was calm, only a murmur from the waves.

I’d read that the old Folkestone Harbour station had been renovated recently so we went to have a look. And what a revelation. The old station, a destination of boat trains to the continent, (which was finally closed in 2014) has been restored and walkways created throughout.

The walking route joins up the station with a swing bridge over the harbour with the harbour arm and the old harbour streets transforming the area. It’s not finished yet but already it’s proving very popular with crowds of people walking around and crossing a boardwalk over the shingle. Reminds me of the Highline trail in New York.

It was back home to slam in the lamb for dinner, a shoulder of local lamb slow cooked. It was pretty good. Jamie Oliver’s recipe.

Today’s blip is of that time honoured tradition of throwing stones into the sea, the extra a shot of the station.
