Roman Holiday

Today we arrived in Rome around lunchtime and found a bar near our hotel, which was also near the Pantheon (a fabulous temple and one of the few attractions in Rome that's free...and therefore very, very crowded). We shared a very nice mushroom pizza and also enjoyed a couple of caraffes of red wine.

After spending a few hours people watching, we decided to go for a stroll around the surrounding streets. A combination of wine, a forgotten map and the distraction of fountains, sculpture and frescos everwhere, meant that we were soon lost!

The picture was taken on a very ordinary side street, but like all ordinary side streets in Rome it was beautifully decorated with lions and (I think) pineapples every few feet along the road.
