Steamin'

Down in the engine room of HMS Caroline, the last surviving ship that took part in the Battle of Jutland in 1916.

The Ards Man once trained on this old lady of the sea when he was in the Royal Naval Reserve. In fact I attended a couple of very formal dinners there - Caroline is where I had my first gin and tonic!

It was very noisy down beside the engines, where there was not a lot of light!
HMS Caroline is now a museum and has been restored to how she would have looked in 1916, complete with crew messes and officers' cabins; it is very well done and I recommend it as a great day out if you are ever in Belfast.
