Rosie sees Pigeon Point Lighthouse
This afternoon we drove north of Santa Cruz on Highway 1. Did I tell you it's our favorite highway?
We thought possibly that we would drive to the campus of University of California at Santa Cruz.We also thought we'd try to find the house in Santa Cruz mountains that an old friend used to own. Thought maybe we might go to Ano Nuevo State Beach, but then the community of Half Moon Bay seemed like a nice destination for a day trip. We're on vacation, so we have no agenda. No one dictating what we have to do or where we have to be.
We didn't get to UCSC. We did find the former home of our friend Paul and took a couple photos. It is out Bonny Doon Road and Smith Grade. We did stop in at Ano Nuevo State Beach and discovered that dogs are not allowed. As we made a U-turn to exit the park, Bob dog let us know he was greatly offended.
So we headed further north toward Half Moon Bay and came to a favorite place--Pigeon Point Lighthouse. It is the site of a Youth Hostel and a place we have stayed both times we bicycled from San Francisco to home in Southern California. The lighthouse hostel is fifty-miles from San Francisco and when traveling by bicycle it is a lovely sight off in the distance. Today it was a lovely sight too, but mostly because of all the memories it resurrected. We have several hallways in our museum of memories filled with bicycle trips. My photo today was taken of the lighthouse after we had turned around to head back south toward Santa Cruz.
We never made it to Half Moon Bay. But I do recommend a CD with the same name by William Aura (it's terrific highway music). "Mirada" is my favorite song from the CD. We're back at our rented beach house now, listening to the waves crash on the sand. Earlier we watched the finger-nail shaped moon slip into the sea.
We left home one week ago this afternoon . . . this is our eighth night down the rabbit hole . . . feels like we've been gone forever. We're having one fabulous vacation here on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Relaxing, refreshing, revitalizing is our apt definition.
Good night to everyone in blipland.
