Good Friday - Walk Of Witness

This is the most important week in the Christian calendar and I am glad that this year I am completely off from work.

Today started with a family service at Church and was followed by a ‘Walk of Witness’ through Maidenhead with many of the town’s churches taking part. These walks are taking place all over the country.

We started at one end of the High Street, slowly walking through the town centre singing Easter Hymns and stopping a few times for readings and short dramatisations of the Easter Friday story. We ended up at the Methodist church at the other end of town, pictured here.

As you can see, it was raining pretty steadily but that didn’t seem to deter many people! The crowd was much larger than captured here. It was a very meaningful event, but I have to admit that we were very happy to eventually receive shelter in the church, where hot drinks and hot cross buns were waiting for us!

It continued to rain all day which was perfect weather for what I had planned the rest of the day - watching the movie Ben Hur (the 1959 version with Charlton Heston) - an Easter favourite. It’s been years since I’ve watched it and I hadn’t remembered how MUCH of the events of Easter week were woven into the story. A magnificent movie. No wonder it won 11 Oscars! If you’ve never seen it I highly recommend - easy to rent from iTunes.
