Joshua' Saturday
It has been a good day, Joshua and I went to the Remembrance Garden to lay Poppy Crosses on behalf of;
The Royal Naval Association
My Dad - Gnr C.R Stevens - Royal Artillery
My Paternal Grandfather - Tpr A.E Stevens - Royal Tank Regiment
My Maternal Grandfather - G.A Fry - Merchant Navy
My Brother-in-Law - Cpl P Levesconte - Royal Corps Of Transport
My Great Uncle - Pte G.A Roberts - East Surreys - KIA 1916 Aged 22
Clare's Maternal Grandfather - Gustav Knoch - 11 Polish Army
The Generations of Stevens
The formal ceremony over the Mayor spoke to Joshua and said how pleased he was to see a youngster at the service, he then offered a personal invitation to Joshua to join him in the Mayor's Parlour for drinks and "You can bring your Dad". In the Mayors Parlour Joshua chatted away to the Mayor and Town Clerk, he was offered and accepted lemonade in the Mayors personal monogrammed glass and then accepted an invitation to be the first 'Dignitary Of The Day' to sign the Mayor's guest book.
We left for the private part of the Remembrance Day, acting as Chairman of the Royal Naval Association and with the Secretary, Ron, we went to the Falmouth Cemetery, specifically to lay five Poppy Crosses on the five graves containing the remains of twenty or so crew from HMS Registant. We also selected the graves of one member of the Army, MN, RAF and AB Savage VC of the Royal Navy to lay four further Poppy Crosses on, these represent the over 100 War Graves contained within Falmouth Cemetery.
Home to change and collect Samantha we had a pleasant stroll through the town until Clare joined us, my third coffee of the day was followed by dinner at the cinema and then Skyfall.
A sad and at times thoughtful day but nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable day.
