The Old Bell, Hurley

Whilst Mr H was at a badminton tournament in High Wycombe, Mrs W and I popped in to see Miles. After lunch we took a short walkabout - the weather is turning wintery and we weren't properly equipped for a long walk along the river.

We passed the Olde Bell pub which carries a date of AD1135 which might mean that it beats The Fighting Cocks in St Albans as the oldest pub in England. This was once the guest house of Hurley Priory. The name may derive from a sanctus bell which was rung to summon the Prior when persons of distinction came seeking hospitality.

It was great to catch up on news and have a leisurely afternoon. Mr H. did well in his badminton tournament despite being two years younger than the age band. No medals but lots of ranking points.

Have a lovely weekend everybody - and don't forget - an extra hour in bed tonight - yippee.
