superstition *
Walking down the hill last Sunday morning with Archie, I found an old horseshoe, with nails still in it, and carried it all the way down. Archie said that traditionally it would be kept with the ends facing upwards, to stop the good luck falling out. I am the least superstitious person I know, the kind who actually walks under ladders on purpose (and who will probably get a pot of paint over my head one day) but I've kept the horseshoe because I just like it as an object that someone made for a useful purpose.
There is, however, a whole wealth of superstition about horseshoes and some really interesting stuff HERE.
* one of my all-time favourites!
