Paired-Off
It proved to be another day of distraction, but I can't complain as the entertainment was so good. It looks like eldest son is a convert to golf after tasting the drama and beauty of the Masters this weekend - helped by having a substantial wager riding on the guy who hung on to win.
Great sport demands a great stage and there is no finer setting for a sporting contest than the course at Augusta. Momentum plays such an important role but it didn't dictate the winner on this occasion. Speith had all the momentum and looked set to win with an insane record-breaking score of 62, before the pressure finally told and he capitulated at the last. McIlroy had no momentum and it was almost painful to watch his game fall apart. If he'd holed for his eagle early on it may have been a completely different story. A fraction of an inch one way and you keep on rolling; a fraction of an inch the other and you hit the buffers. Reed kept losing momentum but kept fighting to get it back. That's not easy and you don't see it very often. It was one of the gutsiest rounds of golf I've ever witnessed. It was exhausting to watch.
