The Downy Oak

I was curious when Fortunato said that oak was only good for burning. I even eventually looked up what the oaks that grow in Tuscany are. They are Downy Oaks - Quercus pubescens. A slow growing and drought resistant oak. They hold on to to their dry leaves right into spring.

I was doing a bit of crown lifting on two of the bigger ones. The lichen they sport on their branches is magnificent.

It rained all day pretty much. A long day more akin to working in a west coast Scotland climate.
