Fosdok

Is the Arabic word for pistachio. And these dark chocolates have pistachio inside. I first received them for my first Easter in Cairo, from an Aussie friend and her Egyptian husband, and I’ve been buying them ever since. I learned on the weekend that the pistachio is covered in honey; it does have a bit of a toffee crunch to it. We bought them from El Abd, which is a very popular cake and sweet shop in Downtown. In fact, when I first entered, it was a sense of déjà vu; I remembered buying the big box of sweets my friend and I took with us when went on the train to Aswan in 2001.

When learning a new language we remember words that have meaning for us more quickly than others. Now my Arabic ain’t great... but I remember fosdok..

I landed back in Kw8 at 430am and enjoyed travelling on deserted roads as the sun was coming up. The sky was a lovely hue of dark blue. I’ve not seen it at that time and it really was quite radiant. I slept for four hours then went to work for the day to get some admin done.

Feeling mentally refreshed.
