Katakolon

Birth place of the Olympics. We could have stayed here for days, so much history. The site was destroyed by an earthquake in AD 522 and 551, however, there is a programme of restoration in place, which obviously relies heavily of the money generated by the paying visitor, prices are not exorbitant to visit the site, we paid 9 euros each for entry to the museum and the olympic site.

There is a very good museum with a replica of the original site, it's quite awe inspiring to look at the ancient statues and other artifacts, then you realise how old they are, and it makes you wonder if anything we have today will survive like these ancient items.
