Poker Face...

When is a dog not a dog?

When she's a shark.  A card shark ;-)))

It's all very well training one's dog to sit, wait, come, fetch and offer a paw, but the real reward comes from going a step further and training one's dog to play poker at professional level.

Lola (Or Lady Luck as she's known on the circuit) has been putting in some serious hours learning the game and perfecting her poker face and it seems she is a natural.

Here she is this evening returning home with her winnings after clearing the gaming table with her Royal Flush.

The word on the street is Muff, the little Maltese, has gambled away her entire wardrobe of cashmere jumpers and satin hair bows and Lucky oh the irony the British Bulldog has lost his kennel.  Lola cares not a jot.

"WOOF WOOF woof WOOF woof! " I heard her say, which roughly translates as "you snooze you lose suckers!"

I think we've created a cash cow monster :-o

In other news, the Gin Palace is almost ready to open.  Most of the knick knacks are out, pictures up and bunting hung.  Just need to get batteries in all the fairy lights and order a little table to sit in the corner that can be pulled out and used to put glasses on.

Got a text from our nephew Andrew and his girlfriend Nikki late afternoon to check that we were in and saying they were thinking of popping up.  Gave them the go ahead so we've had a lovely impromptu visit from them.

Nikki's pregnancy sickness has gone but she's still a bit funny about what she eats. This evening she had a notion for a Chinese chicken curry so what the pregnant lady wants the pregnant lady gets and we all ended up having Chinese takeaway for tea.

Alan's chest infection continues to make him pretty miserable.  Had a temperature this evening again, which was making him sick so he ended up in bed just in Pj bottoms with Shelley mopping his face and neck with lukewarm water.

I really struggle with the fact someone else is providing his care when he is ill but I know that in the interests of his independence that I have to let go of the reins.  After all we won't be around forever and we have to prepare him for that time.  I did go and sit with him for a while but he'd had some paracetamol and cooled down a bit and was smiling and laughing again so I left him and Shelley to it and returned to our visitors.

It's now 12.30am and he seems settled so we will head to bed and hope we all have a peaceful night.

Once again the fates have conspired against me in getting time to visit your journals.  Hoping I will be able to grab an hour or two tomorrow to catch up.

PS  The blip is Lola with the money I gave Andrew to buy the takeaway.  I handed it to him saying "now don't let Lola get it" so he took it from me and put it under his thigh whilst sitting on the sofa.  He then promptly stood up to put his jacket on, forgetting about the money, and of course Lola nabbed it!

All I can say is thank heavens for the new plastic notes and venison chews!  A fair swap was made.

Phew!
