A grass snake swimming!!

This morning I walked to the castle where the coot chicks have hatched. There are only four this time. The bad weather might have played a part.

A new pair of swans arrived a week or two ago and have built a nest (much smaller than average but we think that they're a young pair) and today I saw that she's laid an egg - there's an extra photo of her showing me!

An afternoon walk along the canal was great for wildlife. I saw a couple of orange tip butterflies, my first of the year.

The highlight of the walk was this grass snake swimming along looking for prey, it's always such a thrill to see a snake!  I've seen grass snakes on land but this was my first sight of one swimming which made it extra special.
