Down
Guiseley's long-expected relegation from the National League had been confirmed in mid-week but today was the last home game of the season so I thought I'd pop along for moral support as they prepare for life in the National League North. And as it was a fine day I walked the few miles across the fields to get there.
Woking (in yellow) were the visitors, themselves threatened with relegation, it's between them and Barrow for the last place. Given they'd lost to Barrow in mid-week Guiseley proved even-handed, with Woking also walking away with the three points today. Woking took the lead in a dour first half but things picked up after the break. Guiseley equalised and for twenty minutes were ascendant, but Woking got what proved to be the winner from a corner.
So Guiseley's three year spell at the top level of non-league football is over. The previous two years have seen last day escapes from relegation but this year has been a poor campaign with a huge turnover in playing and managerial staff. We will wait and see whether they elect to go into next season continuing in full-time mode or reverting to semi-professional.
