Long Days of Spring
My potatoes are in! They nearly weren't as after doing the final bit of digging I felt quite exhausted and very hot! I definitly needed the suncream and hat - not that it helped - I still got sunburnt shoulders! I almost thought about going home and coming back later - but knew the probability of me actually returning was low! However instead of digging trenches I decided to dig holes for each potato - and only 3 inch ones at that! It will be interesting to see how this method fares - but given they are on better soil, on already dug over soil rather than in a hard trench, and the fact we will get different weather and that they are in earlier than I usually manage - how will I know which factor is the crucial one re yield or lack of it?!
Once home and having eaten I then sowed more seeds - Brussels sprouts, cabbage, an assortment of purple sprouting, flower sprouts, round cucumbers, Tomatillos, microcherries and lots and lots of flowers! Now comes the fun part of inspecting them each day for germination and growth! I'd better start planning my beds as to what to put where and what beds to prepare first! I still have the beans and peas to direct sow plus more flowers - Spring is such a busy time! Good job the days are long!
