Bird and bloke

I was on campus today to do a POT (Peer Observation of Teaching). I have to do three in order to complete my final piece of work for my teaching qualification. Today's class was the psychology module for a group of Children's Studies degree students and it was really interesting!

It's amazing how often I get lost, given I've been going there since 2011... Today I got confused and went to the St Alphege block rather than St Edburga's and then found St Francis outside, and the campus is (King) St Alfred's so, all in all, it's a bit much, saint-wise.

This statue of St Francis and the Hoopoe is by Robert Hunt. It's only little (51cm tall) and is inspired by St Francis preaching to the birds, and The Conference of the Birds, by 12th century Persian poet and mystic, Farid ud-Din-Attar, in which the hoopoe, symbol of inspiration and the soul's guide, gathers the birds to begin the search for their king, ie their spiritual selves.
