Pennan
"I'd like to take a long weekend. A proper holiday: no email, I mean. I'll take the Nokia, so you can still ring me. Is that OK?"
I didn't think Steve would say no but I wanted to see his face when I said it; he'd be the one left running things, after all. But then, he's usually the one running things so I wasn't that surprised that he was completely cool with it. (Come on, Steve, at least look mildly concerned!)
And so it was that just after Dan and Abi left for school, the Minx and I set off for the northern parts of Scotland. Coffee at Tebay services, of course, and then the progressively greater and greater joy of driving north. This time, we took a new route up though Glenshee, which was beautiful.
It took hours, as you can imagine, which was fine by us. A bit of chat, a bit of music, a bit of companionable silence: all good. And when we got there, the house was gorgeous. Three rooms over three floors: kitchen/living room; bedroom; and attic/study. And having settled in, we went for dinner at the Pennan Inn, where the food turned out to be amazing.
As we came out after dinner, the sky looked like this, so we ambled up and down, taking photos. This was my best effort.
