Bologna Day Five

Steps: 8,388 5.8km!

Took the wee tourist train to the church on top of the hill. It was fun, and well worth the €10 return fare. Lots and lots of people walk up, for you can take the steps up under the shade of the porticoes (660 arches, all numbered). It was a very steep winding road, and the train was definitely the best way of doing it.

I think there was about to be a service in the church - it was packed. Today was Liberation Day, a public holiday - the same as Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand.

We visited the lovely library when we arrived back in town, then went for a nice long lunch with no cured meat, though everyone around was eating mounds of it. We had mozzarella and tomatoes with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and the lovely bread they make here. And we could hear this bass player and his wee band. The live music is not always so pleasurable!

Back home for a snooze then back into town for what we thought was a concert at the church, but I think everything was not following normal timetables. Main roads are pedestrianised on weekends and public holidays, which is nice. If you're not wanting to get anywhere by bus.

Heading out of town tomorrow. If we can get to the railway station and find the right train...
