The lighthouse on Helliar Holm
Today I went over to Shapinsay to volunteer with the RSPB. We were removing an old barbed-wire fence on the reserve at Mill Dam. It's a real pain of a job, especially as the lowest line is always heavily overgrown with grass, but I actually like doing this task as I hate barbed-wire so much. On the dam were ten whooper swans and masses of teal and mallard. It stayed dry for an hour or so before the rain but we weren't too bothered as the work went pretty well. We finished in time to have our lunch in the warmth at the warden's house, then we went for a drive around looking for birds. A couple more shots from Stromness yesterday here.
