Majestic

We’ve seen a number of massive container ships on our Blip pages, so we couldn’t miss this huge cruise liner dominating the skyline in the port of Southampton today.

And small wonder, the Swiss owned MSC Meraviglia has 15 passenger decks and over 1,000 feet in length commands an overriding view in the docks and downtown Southampton.

Her Southampton call is part of a 12 day cruise from the Italian port of Genoa to Hamburg in northern Germany. She arrived yesterday from Vigo, Spain and sails this evening bound for Le Havre and then on to Hamburg. She is next due in Southampton on May 8.

The ship was built at St Nazaire in France, and is reckoned to be one of the biggest cruise ships in the world and a sister ship is currently under construction and due to appear next year.

Dominating the Southampton skyline? She towers above nearby dockland buildings. Sailing under a Maltese flag, she can carry 4,500 passengers, with a crew of 1,536.
