the joy of cycling
Pedal on Parliament #7. We took to the streets again. This time to protest for better cycling infrastructure. We really enjoy going to PoP although I really hope it will be a celebration rather than a protest in the not too distant future.
There are so many good reasons to prioritise cycling (and walking): it reduces the local air pollution; it improves health; it frees up urban space (think street cafes rather than busy junctions); it contributes to reducing global climate change; it reduces our dependency on fossil fuels and associated wars; and, most importantly to me, gives kids (and people who can't afford a car) the freedom to reach places further afield. I just don't get it, why can't we kick the 20th century motor habit and move into 21st century cities where people are prioritised?
Anyway, the kids enjoyed taking over the streets and giving their granddad's classic bike a spin. The sun even shone on us and we finished off with a drink in the sunshine.
