Operation Resilience

Busy afternoon on the road past our place this afternoon as Operation Resilience sprang into being.

It was all about contractors applying a surface dressing to the road with the idea of extending the life of the road surface and make it more resilient to the effect of extreme weather, such as snow and ice, though hopefully we won’t see any more of that until winter at least.

According to the Hampshire Highways authority if cracks and worn areas in the surface were left untreated they were likely to deteriorate further. They reckon the work they were carrying out today is extremely effective in prolonging the life of the carriageway. Fortunately, we had no potholes in the road near us, although I don’t have to drive more than a few hundred yards to encounter them.

Contractors did a good job today, fast and efficiently and it certainly didn’t interrupt my journey to the shops earlier. Let’s hope the authority can be just as quick at tackling the pothole menace.
