Pie!

Today we did a shopping run to Carrefour in Bellac. On our way home we did a quick detour in order to check out the Monty Butcher.

The Monty Butcher is a farmer and from Scotland who raises stock and butchers the meat for sale from his farm shop. He does both British and French cuts and makes a range of British products that includes these absolutely fabulous Scotch Pies.

When we arrived there were no pies visible so I enquired if there were any today and then they were magicked up straight from the oven. Still hot when we got them home, they served as a very substantial lunch. They were every bit as good as they look. The pastry was light and crisp and the pie filled to the top with moist mutton.

We were not originally keen on the idea of the "English butcher" when we heard of him. We are keen to "eat French" and not be little Englanders but we heard that he has Haggis and then felt bound to go see.

There was no Haggis today, unfortunately, but the pies made up for that. We also purchased some Pork, apricot and leek sausage for the BBQ (more of which later) and indulged in a couple of lamb leg steaks. French lamb has been overwhelmingly disappointing, so hoping that this home-reared lamb has some of the flavour that we miss.

If the lamb and sausage are as good as the pies then we shall return time and again .

Didn't see any hairy coos today but did spot some very happy spotted pigs and piglets.

As for the BBQ, we arrived home to find the final part of the delivery had arrived. Mr L has just begun to unpack it ready for assembly to find that we had package 2, two package 3, and 4. Package 1 does not exist and appears to be the one with the assembly instructions in.

All thoughts of tomorrow's dinner of barbecued lamb, straight from the flames and redolent with garlic and rosemary have gone out of the window!
