A Good Day

An action-packed day: art journal class in the morning, Mahler's Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection) in the afternoon, and a fine plate of sushi in the evening. I didn't pick a weed all day!

The journal workshop was again inspiring. I will try to do better this week about actually practicing what was demonstrated: more page layout information, and a session on Notan, a Japanese concept of light and dark shapes as they relate to composition. Lots to think about and lots to work with.

The Symphony featured a 98 piece orchestra, 89 singers and 2 conductors on a stage that could barely contain them all. This was big music, and the soprano soaring over the chorus in the final movement was something to be treasured. An ambitious piece for our local orchestra, and very well done.

As for the sushi--a fabulous finale. This little place has been our favorite for many years, the fish is super fresh, and the owner/chef makes everything from scratch, including some special secret sauces. He always has the nearby tv tuned to a sports channel so he can watch easily as his hands move expertly over the food.
