Halloween from the Backseat
I sent Mr. Fun a text late this afternoon to suggest that he ought to bring dinner home so we could eat and quickly head upstairs by the time it was dark because we weren't planning to participate in the traditional "Trick or Treat" at our front door. We just weren't ready with the candy and we knew the pooches wouldn't understand at all as each knock sounded at the door.
Then Mr. Fun phoned and suggested we just leave to get dinner somewhere. I told him that if I had my desire, we'd drive to Laguna Beach (which we rarely do these days) and have Italian dinner at Salerno. He thought that sounded terrific. So when he got home, we put the pups in their harnesses, hooked them securely into the backseat of the car, I got into the backseat with them, and we were off -- headed toward the western sunset. I took photos all the way to the ocean. Spectacular sights.
When we arrived at Salerno, the note in the window revealed "We'll be closed Wednesday, October 31st." Ergh! A couple guys were right behind us and sighed, "We've just walked a half hour to get here for dinner." We told them we'd driven in from the Inland Empire.
We weren't going to be discouraged, we just walked the pups around the block, letting them "sniff and piss" (sorry, I like the rhyme -- and that is what they did; well, Mitzi actually pooed; we were so glad she didn't do that in the car while we were gone).
Then we put the pups in the car's backseat and we walked to BJ's Pizza where we had a delicious dinner. We shared a Caesar salad, a plate of spaghetti with meat sauce, and a small deep-dish pepperoni and pineapple pizza. If you guessed that it was delicious, you're right! We waddled back to the car -- burping all the way! (I'm kidding about the burping.)
Then Mr. Fun had me drive home -- which happens once every thousand years. We stopped at Trader Joe's (kind of an organic/natural foods store) on Pacific Coast Highway on the way home. We drove home through Orange County with the three pups in the backseat absolutely silent.
Just before 10:00 p.m. we arrived home. I completely missed my one hour of online office this evening, so I'll make it up next week.
Halloween from the backseat was stupendous! and tomorrow we enter the very best month of the year! This is birthday season . . . Woohoo!
Good night from Southern California.
