The day has a thousand eyes
- as the poet didn't say - and you do need keen sight to spot these tiny eyelash fungi which are only 2 or 3 millimetres across. Each minute orange disc is surrounded by a delicate fringe of' lashes, the purpose of which is not known. The species is saprophytic and grows on rotten wood.
