On a Highland croft...
with blipper 'Croftcrafts'.
We had a love couple of hours with her today at her croft house above the harbour where the boats take people across to Handa Island.
We were heading in that general direction today for the Wednesday craft market at Elphin. (Sadly it was closed due to a roof leak we subsequently discovered). So we made an arrangement to meet after she had done some of her morning chores and appointments.
As the market was shut we continued on to the Rock Stop cafe for coffee. Pleased to see they have now got UNESCO status for this Geopark. There is a great exhibition here explaining why this is such an important geological area and you can have your coffee overlooking Loch Glendhu and the very visible geological Thrust Plane.
It was lovely to get properly acquainted with Croftcrafts not least because she has got her first grandchild, Magnus, just a month after mine, Eda, was born.
I particularly wanted to see her garden as I have been amazed at what her blips have shown that she has managed to grow virtually out of rock. So here we are in her lovely garden. She kept apologising for the weeds but her plants, tulips in particular, were looking fabulous. She has some lovely examples of her craftwork in her home and I know, she has some things for sale in some of the local area craft shops.
Returning we popped down to Kyesku where the ferry used to run. There is a small craft cabin there opposite the hotel. We decided to stop and have a late lunch having first spotted a red deer at the side of the road above the Loch. We had four sightings today including several at Inchnadamph (field of the stags) and one on the very narrow single track road side on the way back to Achnahaird.
Thank you for being so welcoming I and for your hospitality. A shame it has taken so long for us to meet and I hope we get to meet again soon. Look forward to more blips of your garden and Magnus as he grows!
Sunny evening again, the best part of the day today.
