Hallowe'en Figs
This year, only one of the figs on our old fig tree ripened enough to eat as raw fruit. A handful of others still hung on the branches, becoming almost ripe, but not eatable, as the leaves began to fall off. Even the birds disdained them.
Then on Sunday, Bundle posted a Blipfoto of her fig tree. She, too, was complaining of a lack of "luscious, Lawrentian fleshiness" in her fruits. But, at the end of her entry, she gave a link to a recipe for Roasted Figs.
We decided to try the recipe out with our unripe figs, following the direction that "for less savory figs", we could replace balsamic vinegar by Cointreau.
Here is the result: not glossily purple as ripe, uncooked figs would have been, but nonetheless delicious to eat. An excellent use of figs that otherwise would have gone to waste.
Thank you, Bundle!
