Where did all that snow go?

We got home late last night and really tired so we didn't think about the lack of snow in the garden. When we woke up this morning and pulled the curtains open it was to see a garden that was virtually snow-free. We were amazed because when we went away, 8 days ago, the garden was still covered in deep snow. It's obviously been rather warm! 
The grass is looking dead but within a day or two it will perk up and start growing. The decapitated chimney is still lying by the side of the house where it was pushed as the snow slid of the roof. Fortunately it will be some months before the wood-burner in The Red House is needed.
Spring is really here!
