My Wife and Children

It was a nice Mother's Day. It hasn't been the same since my mother left us 10 years ago, but still...it was nice. My wife Lisa outdid herself with a roast beef dinner with all the fixins, and everyone enjoyed it. I know my Mom would have been proud of her. She is both a good cook, and a special mother.

It was also a special day at church because all 3 of our kids showed up. We almost took up a whole row.

I always struggle with my emotions in trying to say a prayer before the family meal, and it's especially hard on Mother's Day. So, this year I got smart. I wrote out a poem/prayer, and I had my daughter Karen read it. Here it is.

We give thanks on this day for mothers,
who live both near and far.
For the special gifts they are given,
and for being just who they are.

For the total giving of themselves,
and for going the extra mile.
For their patience, love, and grace,
and for that face with that smile.

We give thanks for moms still with us,
and for moms who have passed away.
We give thanks for precious memories,
on this...our...Mother's...Day.

Amen, and...Happy Mother's Day!
