What a mess

There are couple of good photo magazines in the stores ... Digital Camera World, Practical Photography, Digital Photo and What Digital Camera to name a few. I don't prefer any of the magazines particularly and there's no point of buying them all. So before purchasing any, I go trough it in the store and see if there is anything interesting in it for me. Sometimes I buy all four and sometimes none at all.

I like when there are explained task's (sometimes challenges) in the magazine ... something you can try at home with no special studio equipment. In January's What Digital Camera there was a home studio special. Jamal Alayoubi revealed how to create liquid images, that look impossible at first sight ... how could water, wine or any other liquid splash in a still class like this?

The setup was pain in the ass to say the least and I could write a book about cleaning the mess afterwards and trough the shoot. In the article Jamal suggested to color the water with food coloring, bud since I didn't have any, I used water and little red wine to get some color ... most of the red wine I drank from the frustration of cleaning between shots. Everything that could go wrong ... did! I recommend not doing this indoors!

To people that don't have the January issue of What Digital Camera: The wine class was fixed to the mirror (you can use class instead of mirror) with double tape. I recommend using superglue because in one point the double tape gave in and I spilled the class ... oh the mess, I almost cried (but I captured it). Flash was bounced of the wall to avoid reflections and to get the water to splash like this you have to pull the mirror/class towards yourself, then push it forward to a sudden stop and take the picture, easy huh?

I got three decent/sharp shots out of twelve ... none witch I'm really satisfied with but I was too god damn tired of cleaning up winewatershit from the floor, walls and sealing to try more. It took me four hours from setup to retouching in Photoshop. Thanks Jamal, thanks a fucking bunch :)
