Beach!
Gym ✖️
No time for it today - went to the beach instead. Always best to go in the morning. It was super. No wind, warm, lots of doggies and the best bacon bap in town. Archie would say, 'The best liver cake in town, too'.
Rufus kept up with us, and at one point, after this photo, JR and Archie decided to walk on a bit more, and Rufus and I would return to the cafe. But no. Rufus did not want that. He watched Archie trotting off, but couldn’t get over the groyne, so he ignored my calls, trotted down the beach far enough so that he could get over, and rushed to catch up with his pal Archie! We met a huge ridgeback, the size of a small cow! He was lying on the sand, and his owners just had to wait till he was ready to move. He weighed 87kg, they told us...
We eventually came back and had bacon baps and coffees. The dogs had liver muffin and water. A big dog came up and was over-enthusiastically snuffling at my pocket (I had treats there) but Rufus came to the rescue and charged at him, snarling (sort of). The big dog rushed off.
While at the beach I got a phone call from the hospital saying that I hadn’t shown up for my x-rays. When the specialist had said, 'We'll get your back and neck x-rayed' he meant there and then, but I didn’t realise this and wandered off home to await an appointment letter.
So, that’s where I went this afternoon. I listened to a podcast about an (in)famous murder in NZ in 1994, when I still lived there. The Bain murder, where a whole family was shot dead, and the suspects were the only survivor, the eldest son, David, or the father in a murder/suicide. David was found guilty and jailed for life, and he served 13 years before re-trial found him not guilty and released him. There are 10 episodes! Fascinating listening - I won’t fall asleep in this story.
Rufus’s last night with us. :-(
