NOT Warnscale Bothy

We went to look for the iconic Warnscale Bothy that my photography guidebook describes as having the best view in the Lakes.

I had marked the exact Grid Reference on my GPS but unfortunately left the battery behind so that was no help.  Trouble is that it's not shown on the map.

Anyway,  we asked a walker coming the other way and he said 'it's just round the next corner - you can't miss it'.   As we rounded the corner a small bothy appeared.   'That's not Warnscale' I said 'it's meant to have Buttermere behind it'.   It turned out to be Dubs Hut which is OK but not quite what we wanted.

Warnscale Bothy is actually hidden behind the lower ridge on the left of the image.  It wasn't that far but we decided to leave it for another day as Jane only had lightweight shoes on.

At least we know where it is now and next time I think we will approach it from Gatesgarth farm rather than Honister which we did today.
