We have lift off

A stroll into town along the river and this grey heron landed on the playing fields on the opposite bank. Managed one or two shots but was not impressed with them. It obviously did not like a camera pointed at it so it took off and I took a load of shots of: nothing, one wing, a blur and this one. A bit of cropping and zooming in and I think it looks OK for my first heron capture.
No surprise that they eat lots of fish but they will also take small birds such as ducklings, small mammals such as voles voles, and amphibians. After harvesting grey herons can sometimes be seen in fields looking for rodents.
