Washingwell Woods

Morrisons as usual this morning.  Then a late breakfast and a bit of TV viewing.

And then --- thanks to BobsBlips -  I went for a walk in the countryside.  His theme for today's Wide Wednesday is  countryside. I headed for Washingwell Woods which isn't too far from my house.  I used to go there a lot when I was a child with a whole gang of friends who lived near me.  Happy days.

There are actually quite a few entrances/exits to the wood - all signposted and with proper paths.   I got the bus to the village and walked into the woods along the path near the Police Station.

I was familiar with the route at first but as I came across forks in the path I just took one way or the other at random with no idea where I was headed.  There was hardly anyone about - only a few dog walkers.

I really enjoyed myself.  The woods are lovely at the moment.  Still a few bluebells about and hundreds of wild garlic flowers giving off a lovely scent.  There is a stream running through the woods and it was great to just stand and listen to the sound of the water.

When I stood still to take my blip shot the only sounds I could hear were the birds singing and the stream - no traffic noise and no people about.  It was magical.  I could almost imagine a mythical creature like a unicorn coming out of the trees.  I stood for a few minutes just enjoying the peace.

When I was ready to come home I found a path which headed towards the noise of traffic and came out on a road not too far from my house.

I took loads of photos so I have added a few as Extras.

The weather today was dull and cool but quite pleasant for walking in the woods - although I did wear a warm jacket.
