Kilbrandon Again
The day started with a walk with the dog when this was taken. For a change, Monochrome, which shows up better the misty dew drops.
The air was a bit warmer which augured well and just as I was heading into the Old College Library the sun broke through. In nearby gardens were Alliums - like giant colourful dandelions- see extra.
The day was spent at a session of the Kilbrandon Again Panel, listening to various research findings on the trends both national and international in relation to youth offending.
Lots of debate about the age of criminal responsibility; how we address offending behaviour: the early and effective intervention approach; the variety of approaches and, often, the paucity of data.
Some reinforcing messages about the childrens hearing system: but also some challenges about how we support victims keeping them informed and looking at what role they might play.
lots of discussion too about the disclosure of behaviour and how the information recorded may have an adverse impact of lives in the future.
So much more reflection needed on what might emerge from this reassessment of the system. But I sensed a recognition of the value of the system we have and a willingness to have constructive dialogue about its future.
