Today it's all about the gig economy or working freelance on the Internet.
Emma Gannon is a millennial and her book the Multi Hyphen Method is very much a book of our time.
Today at Hay Festival she spoke about how the Internet and our phones meant we could work anywhere and at a pace of our own making.
Gone too are the days, especially in the media, when jobs depended on contacts and where you lived.
Being an Internet entrepreneur is not an easy option. But it can be done. She gives herself several labels to describe her own working practice- pod caster, blogger, and broadcaster- each bringing in different revenue streams.
Research shows, says Gannon, that by 2025
75 per cent of all jobs will be freelance and many of those jobs have yet to be invented.
The good news is that there is no age limit to being an entrepreneur- she had an 87 year old woman at one of her events wanting to set up her own online company selling her knitting.
