Bivouac de L'Empereur
We arranged to take mum out for Sunday lunch today to the Bivouac de L'Empereur, a restaurant which was built on the site of the Battle of Waterloo.
The original building was constructed a short while after the battle as a hotel, and then in the 1950's the restaurant was built in the style of a farmhouse from the Napoleonic era, using materials recovered from the battle site.
There's a huge open fireplace, and I asked for a table in front of the fire - it was the perfect venue for lunch on a wet and windy day. Particularly as we'd had a power cut at home this morning which resulted in no heating or hot water as well!
Fortunately it's back to normal now, but it gave me the excuse to go and have a pamper at the gym - I decided to go and use their shower, but while I was there used the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi too :-)
